ISLANDAP ADVANCED promotes new objectives on food security, waste reduction and efficient use of resources in the ORs, all this in an interregional, coordinated and multidisciplinary way, based on the work carried out in the previous ISLANDAP project (MAC/1.1a/207).
Under the title “R&D&i towards Aquaponic Development in the OR Islands and the Circular Economy. Interregional Forward Challenges”, ISLANDAP ADVANCED focuses on promoting innovation applied to aquaculture, hydroponics and microalgae to generate innovation in products and value-added processes (in fresh and salt water systems); and in R&D in Circular Economy adapted to ORs, with the development of bio-products.
Main beneficiaries will be: Universities and R&D Centers, that will have their knowledge and technologies in research areas reinforced; Companies, which will be in charge of enhancing this knowledge, generating wealth and employability in the Region; Regional centers with competencies in sustainability, environmental management and primary production, that will have greater support in R&D&i institutions; and general population that will have access to the results and applications of the project through training and dissemination actions.
The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the main beneficiary of the project, which has a consortium made up of 9 organizations, among which is the Canary Islands Institute of Technology, a public R&D center attached to the regional Ministry of Universities, Science & Innovation and Culture of the Canary Islands Government.
The project (with code MAC2/1.1a/299) is co-financed by the Interreg MAC 2014-2020 Cooperation Program, within Axis 1: Boosting research, technological development and innovation.
