DATALAB seeks to improve the capabilities of companies to advance in the intelligent management of tourist destinations, addressing technological challenges and taking advantage of digital information with the aim of creating and consolidating an innovative tourist space. The scope of cooperation includes the archipelagos of the Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde.
The project focuses on supporting technology companies to promote the deployment of technologies based on data analytics, to collect, process, analyze and visualize information that improves the competitiveness of tourism companies and, by extension, the tourist destination itself. For this it is intended:
- Modernize the tourism sector through the development of projects that includes sensorization and measurement of tourism activity for integration into big data and data analytics platforms and systems
- Generate talent through the execution of initiatives to improve the training, capacities and competences of professionals and companies in the area of cooperation in projects related to big data and data analytics.
Smart tourist destinations are characterized by offering innovative products and services, where tourism resources are managed more sustainably and efficiently, visitors can receive services tailored to their needs and tourism companies are highly competitive.
The project is entitled "Improving the competitiveness in companies of tourism and technology sector of the collaboration space by defining, developing and executing a strategy based on big data."
The project (with code MAC2 / 2.3d / 323) is co-financed by the Interreg MAC 2014-2020 Cooperation Program, and corresponds to Axis 2 "Improving the competitiveness of SMEs".
It has a consortium made up of eight companies, among which is the Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC), a public center attached to the Ministry of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Canary Islands Government. The coordinator of the initiative is the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Society.
