Description

The action which is promoted with the GICTUR project consists of implementing ICTs or positioning tourism companies on the Internet which have not up to now incorporated ICTs in a proper manner into their businesses, or have not had a presence on the Net to sell their products and make contact with their customers as they are not sufficiently informed of the advantages that they offer, or because they lack advice and public help for implanting them in their businesses.

The services that are offered by the GICTUR project have been established in two categories: Basic services:

1. Basic services:
  • Creation of a free e-mail account.
  • Registration of the company with Internet search engines and on web sites.
  • Registration on pages that offer the location of the business on an online map (geo-location) such as Google maps or Bing.
Registration of the company on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

2. Advanced services:
  • Creation of a corporate web page and registration of the domain with its name.
  • Integration on Internet tourist platforms which demand management by the businessperson.
  • Distance learning about business formulae on the Internet.
The list of available services for companies may be updated throughout the GICTUR project.

General purpose

The primordial objective of GICTUR is to promote the use of ICTs in the tourism business, either located in outlying areas or away from the large centres of population, or alternatively those which due to their size or culture have not sufficiently exploited these technologies.

Specific purposes

  • To diagnose the needs of tourism companies in the matter of ICTs and to determine the actions which will allow them to increase their capacity in relation with their customers.
  • To overcome the barriers to the use of ICTs so as to achieve a more competitive business fabric which is better positioned vis-à-vis the new tourist markets.
  • To improve their presence on the Internet and to increase the marketing capacity of the businesses which operate in the Canarian tourist sector.

Results

From 1st February for five months, it is planned that the thirteen GICTUR agents should visit, advise and implant services to around 1,000 companies all over the Canary Islands. The final results will be evaluated at the end of the field work, in June 2011.
