Description

In the interests of continuing with the support and strengthening of the CIDE network, in 2009, two new programmes were created with which it is intended to make a structure for encouragement of innovation in local areas, creating for this purpose two specialist bodies: the district CIDEs and the Managers of District Innovation, whose final purpose is to contribute to boosting the local economy and generating wealth by promoting innovation in areas further away from the large urban areas of the Canary Islands.

Both figures operate in the context of the initiative called DILO (Dissemination of Local Innovation Local, Abbreviation of the Spanish name), which was started up in November 2009. At that moment, a wide network of qualified professionals, made up of 70 District Innovation Managers and 18 District Centres of Innovation and Business Development (CIDE) qualified to supply information and personalised advice to companies which wish to take advantage of the existing opportunities of innovation. Likewise, as a pilot experience, four Innovation Agents were put into open commercial areas with the aim of invigorating innovative initiatives in the context, by promoting projects on the network and favouring the strengthening of this specific sector.

These professionals, all over the islands, visited over 22,000 small and medium sized companies to inform them without charge about innovation opportunities, thereby consolidating the culture of innovation in all the productive sectors of the Canary Islands.
