The Spanish Meteorological Institute (INM) and the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) are hosting the 2005 European Lightning Detection Workshop (ELDW) on 8th and 9th of June, at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands (Spain).

For INM this meeting has a special meaning because in collaboration with the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) and the Portuguese Meteorological Institute (IMP), the project REDRIM has received the financial support of the European Union through the initiative INTERREG IIIB (European Regional Development Funds) to extend the lightning location network of Spain in the Canary Islands as ultra peripheral European region.
